SM Phototech V10 No9

Every time the new edition of Scrapbooking Memories lands in my letterbox, I'm astounded that another month has passed by!! This month sees the Christmas edition, full of beautiful Christmas colours and projects.

Phototech is all about "Fun Photo Ideas for Christmas" and shows a few of my past Christmas photos - my Archilles Heal of photography!! I do really like, however, to take a photo of my kids each year, as the article states. My family and friends have come to expect an updated vision of my children.

Funnily enough, with the magazine filling my mailbox today, guess what we did yesterday??.... Yep, we took our Christmas photographs!!

I kept it simple this year, with the kids all wearing the same white T-shirts they wore last year (see the magazine) and standing in front of a material backdrop, stapled to a wall outside. I also included the new baby in the photographs, in the form of my massive baby-belly. I'm only seven months!! It's going to be BIG at full term!!!

So, here we are, all ready for the front of the Christmas cards.

I also jumped into a couple on my own, as I have never overly recorded my previous pregnancies on film. (Wishing I had have ironed the material or had a mirror to hide that crease down the middle!!)

Awww.... a glowing, fat person!! Tee hee.

First Hasselblad Photos

Remember way back in September I mentioned I became the proud owner of a Hasselblad medium format camera? Well, I have finally scanned in some photographs to share (yes, it's a film camera). These first ones are hilarious, as I was just photographing anything to see if the camera worked and to start learning any idiosyncrasies. So far, it seems to be a beautiful camera and I'm having fun with it.

I took the 'Blad to Sydney in October and photographed Luna Park. I'll share those images soon, too. For the moment, here are a few 'teething' shots, for something to show you (as promised, Dad).

I'll get better, the more I practise. I am pretty happy with my Luna Park shots so far, so stay tuned!!
xx S.
Oh, PS... THANK YOU to all my beautiful family and friends who celebrated my birthday with me yesterday, whether in person or with calls, messages, texts, cards, emails and Facebook notes. I feel very blessed to be surrounded by such lovely people!!

Action Teaser

I'm working on a stack of new Actions and thought I'd post a teaser. :)

This is probably my favourite photograph that I've taken in 2008. Amelia's eyes are simply gorgeous and I just love the simplicity of this photo. Here's the original:

Now, here's the same photograph with a quick and easy Sassi Photography action run over it:

Sweet? I love the colour pop. Stayed tuned into the New Year, to find out how to get this action for your very own!!!

Take care,

My Family Shoot

Is there anything more uninteresting than too many photos posted of the one photo shoot? Well, this my own family, photographed in May 2008 - I just haven't had the time to edit properly yet!! I couldn't decide on my favourite few, so you are getting my favourite twenty-one!!

**If you don't blink, you may even see ME hidden in a photo!!!**

Phew!! You made it through!!! I had a ball looking through these again. I really am very lucky to have this beautiful family.

Brisbane Botanic Gardens

Nick and I took a quick trip to the Brisbane Botanic Gardens today. It was hot. Really hot. Every time we walked past a shady bench, Nick would grab my hand and say, "Mummy, I really think it's time for another cool sit in the shade."

Somehow I managed to get us lost, but we eventually found our way to the water lillies, which was the whole reason for the visit. I needed some photographs for my current assignment.

Along the way, we met this gorgeous little spider. He is only a little bigger than two pieces of rice. I love macro. :)

The water lillies were all standing tall by the time we found them, so I didn't get as many great shots as I'd have liked. I spotted this next little bee playing in one of the flowers and waited "ever so long, Mummy" for it to pop up into view again. I love that it looks like it's looking at the camera. Clever little bee.

Enough for now. I'm off to bed. My little baby in my belly has given me a rough day and I need lots of sleep tonight. Just under twelve weeks left! Woohoo.

Today's TtV Image

Maleny spiderweb at sunset.

I'm going through a lot of older photos and finding some real gems I had completely forgotten about. I love the depth of field of this photograph. It's full of little victims too... shame there was no spider.
Thanks for dropping by. Feel free to say hello, so I know you've been!

More TtV

I haven't posted for a while as I've been so busy re-branding myself and working on the new blog and website! It's been months that I've been trying to do this... and I think it'll probably be months before I'm happy with the results and before you all see what I've been up to!!

In the meantime, I've been playing with the TtV process again and have one single, solitary photo to share with you...

The original image:

The edited image:

This is taken out at Kooralbyn, where the golf course is. My parents live out there, so I've been keeping an eye on this spot for years.

I've been playing with a few new actions that I've been writing, too. I look forward to sharing them with you in the future!

Take care for now!

Canon Photo5 Competition

Every year (well, this is the second year and they are hoping to keep it going) Canon Australia have a Photo5 Competition. Participants register and Canon send out a little box containing five everyday objects to be photographed creatively.

I registered very early on and received my box.... then proceeded to forget about it! With two days to go until the deadline, I remembered, but couldn't get into gear to think of anything interesting, different or exciting. Instead, I photographed my objects and inserted them into some zoo photographs I had taken the week before.

Here are my entries:

A purple CRAYON....

A TEA LIGHT....

A yellow COCKTAIL UMBRELLA....

A red RIBBON....

A container of BUBBLES....

A bit of a laugh and I had fun putting them together. I don't expect to even get into the finals, but have loved looking through the thousands of photographs entered. The finalists will be announced and judging will commence on Monday 3 November. When the finalists' photographs are the only ones showing in the galleries, it's worth having a look. There are way too many photos to go through in the meantime.

Wish me luck! Bahahahahaa!!!

Creative Commercial Assignments

After a busy weekend, I thought I'd share a couple of creative commercial assignments I'm working on. They are all works in progress.

The first image is the Gayundah Wreck at Woody Point, Qld, for an editorial promotion. The second two are Sydney's Luna Park, for artist sales. The last image is a thoughtful primate at Taronga Zoo for a poster with a message (hence the large green bit).
Tomorrow I will be spending a large part of my morning photographing beads. I just need to find the energy to pull out my lighting kit, which I packed away for the renovations! D'oh!!

I'll let you know how it goes. Take care.
